Things to Do
With miles of pristine beaches and blue ocean waves, historic architecture, and exciting nightlife that has something for everyone, Oxnard, California, is a great place to live. Oxnard is home to four well-known wineries:
Herzog Wine Cellars,
Magnavino Cellars,
Rancho Ventavo Cellars, and
Strey Cellars. Spend a weekend visiting each tasting room, walk the vineyard and see how the wine is made, then bring home a bottle or two to enjoy or as a gift.
Outdoor lovers that want to know more about California’s variety of interesting marine life will enjoy Oxnard’s charming harbor and easy access point to the Channel Islands National Park. The
Channel Islands National Park and Marine Sanctuary is considered the “North America’s Galapagos” and protects over 1,400 miles of ocean waters around the Northern Channel Islands. The sanctuary uses research, education, conservation, and stewardship to protect this special place for endangered species and endangered habitats. Visitors can dive, boat, kayak, hike, and fish while enjoying the wildlife that includes whales, dolphins, seals, sea lions, and seabirds.
The city’s vibrant music scene has something for everyone, from young professionals to parents needing a night out on the town. The mild climate and area’s many sunny days make it so that live bands play summer and winter at locally hosted events. The city also hosts a variety of popular festivals, including the
Strawberry Festival,
Fireworks by the Sea and Festival, and the unusual but popular
Steampunk Festival. What is Steampunk? Steampunk is what happens when the Victorian Era and modern-day steam technology meet. Add in a bit of Science Fiction and Fantasy costuming – such as goggles, jet packs, corsets, top hats, parasols, and more – and you have the makings of a fun weekend for the family.
